Life Intervenes

Posting here because of a number of questions. I'll be out of pocket for awhile. Family emergency. Not Rachel. She's good. But I need to be with family for a few days. Will post later.

Good writing to you all.

A Weekend Bust

And here I'd planned to do all this writing this weekend. Empty some boxes. Put up some books. Organize the contest....

Contest?

Oh, yeah....I'm the official coordinator for the Music City Romance Writers 2006 Melody of Love Contest. The deadline is July 1, so the entries have started rolling in. On Saturday, I FINALLY got to another meeting (I've been doing those delightful conferences instead), and got judges signed up and picked up the first ten entries.

That's about all I did this weekend. *sigh*

I felt frozen again. I'm worried about my mom, but also I think I had an attack of the hormonal lazies. I hope that's what it is. I didn't do anything yesterday except a bit of laundry and take care of Rachel. I slept. Messed around on the computer. Eventually, late last night, I emptied a few boxes and put away books, entered the judges' info on the computer.

Still no writing, and I keep looking over my shoulder for that dark spot, wondering if I need to take action now.

From Texas Swing to Writing Swing

I think I'm getting old.

Well...okay, oldER. I once asked two friends of mine, including novelist Steven Womack, how they knew when they were getting old...Steve's answer has stuck with me for a long time. "I knew when I could still do all I used to do all night, but I couldn't GO the next day. When I was younger, I could party all night, then hop up and go to work in the morning. I can still do the all night thing, but the next day I'm dead."

Sorta like me after a writers conference. With a difference.

I return, pumped and ready to write and go again...at least emotionally. Physically, I curl in a chair and stair at the walls or the television. Frozen for a few days. I have so little energy, it takes all I have just to keep going, take care of the house and kid, catch up on the work at the day job.

Or, as another friend described it, I've reached that age when "the brain and the body work on two different time frames and energy levels."

So for all of those waiting for a response from me on something from either Blue Ridge or Frontiers in Writing, I appreciate your patience. I'll get there.

And, just in case you're wondering, I highly recommend the Frontiers in Writing conference. I had a great time, met some amazing folks, and enjoyed my first trip to the Texas Panhandle. So THANKS to all those who helped me make that trip with glee and wonder.

My toes are still recovering from Saturday night. But I'll be ready to get back into the swing before too long. :)

Happy weekend, folks.

THANK YOU!

Wow, I can't believe a week has leapt by since my last post. Thank you, thank you, to all who wrote (or called) to ask if I were OK (I am!). Please forgive the lack of contact; I've just been slammed with work. Trying to put out fires, catch up on the work, and balance out a few homelife bits have kept me hopping, and unable to really be back in touch the way I want to, especially with the folks I met at the conference.

Now I'm off to another conference, this one in beautiful Amarillo. The Frontiers in Writing conference looks amazing, and I'm hoping it will be as much a blessing as BRCWC.

It's also crowded with a touch of nostalgia. My contact with the conference is college friend Sharon, whom I miss A LOT, even though we've stayed in touch over the years. I can't wait to meet her children. Also, one of the speakers is screenwriter Rick Reichmann, who taught my first screenwriting class (um...a few years ago). Rick was actually responsible for my first (adult) writing award, which came from the Houston International Film Festival.

Lots of ties for me in Texas (waving to Dee, if she's reading!).

More later.
